Occupational Therapist

Purpose of the Job
To promote the health and well-being of residents and prevent disability, increase independent function, and enhance development that will enable them to participate in everyday activities.
Role and Responsibilities
- Ensure that a holistic approach is used in allowing beneficiaries to achieve optimal functional level in all spheres of life.
- Provide OT Risk assessments and individual development plans in conjunction with MDT.
- Ensure that adequate treatment programmes are implemented, incorporating the total client population on a daily basis.
- Assist with assessments and therapeutic intervention within the program.
- Ensure that residents with special needs are catered for.
- Ensure that all members of the MDT are updated and aware of progress and outcomes of each beneficiary.
- Ensure adequate communication among all levels of staff.
- Ensure safety of beneficiaries and staff.
- Monitor and maintain equipment, areas and supplies.
- Ensure that beneficiaries have the required specialist equipment to maximise ability and safety.
- Provide support and training as and when needed to staff to ensure that they have the necessary skills to perform their duties.
- Co-ordination and development of environmental task team, dementia and sensory stimulation programs.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- BSc Occupational Therapy degree

- A hands on clinical approach to patient and beneficiary management
- Good understanding of physical rehabilitation
- Sound knowledge and application of assistive devices and mobility aids
- Good communicator
- Strong leadership abilities
- Keen interest in the field of geriatrics
