Nursing Manager

Purpose of the Job
To provide effective clinical and operational leadership to the nursing services of an old-age facility, ensuring the delivery of safe, person-centred, high-quality care while maintaining professional, regulatory and organisational standards.
Role and Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership and oversight to all nursing units.
- Manage, supervise and support Unit Managers and Enrolled Nurses.
- Ensure consistent standards of nursing care and clinical governance.
- Monitor resident safety, clinical risks, incidents, medication management and infection prevention.
- Conduct regular clinical audits and implement quality-improvement initiatives.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels, rostering and effective workforce utilisation.
- Manage staff performance, discipline, development and training in collaboration with HR.
- Ensure compliance with SAN requirements, legislation, policies and facility procedures.
- Support Unit Managers in managing complex clinical and resident-related matters.
- Liaise with doctors, allied health professionals, residents and families.
- Monitor nursing equipment, supplies and operational resources.
- Participate in budgeting, planning and strategic development of nursing services.
- Ensure effective emergency and after-hours clinical escalation processes.
- Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, teamwork and person-centred care.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Nursing.
- Current SANC registration.
- Minimum 5 years’ nursing experience, preferably in geriatric/frail care.
- Minimum 2-3 years’ nursing management or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of clinical governance, nursing standards and relevant legislation.
- Computer literacy.
